New Addition to Vending Machine Benefits Students

Credit cards can now be used on the ice cream vending machine outside of the Cafeteria.

“Most students carry cards as opposed to cash,” Assistant Principal LeAnn Downs said. “So it (is) a more convenient way for them to get a snack (and) it’s a good marketing tool.”

Senior Leo Espinosa said the new addition is more convenient.

“I tend to use debit cards more,” Espinoza said. “Carrying change and cash can be annoying since it weighs my wallet down.”

This additional way to pay benefits those with jobs, Espinosa said.

“Most of the student body has jobs that directly deposit their checks into their account,” he said. “Not everyone has access to cash.”

However, senior Alyssa Mestres said the change is unnecessary.

“I don’t think it benefits anything because if someone doesn’t have cash, they’re most likely not going to have anything in their bank account,” she said.

Even though there is only one vending machine with this option, Espinosa said he is hoping to see more.

He said, “Hopefully, as technology evolves, the school will catch up to the fast growing industry to reflect the needs of students.”
