For the first time in school history, the option to purchase and paint a parking spot was offered to the Class of 2025.
“This is my first senior class here and I wanted to allow them to do something fun and unique,” Principal Nastassia Neal said. “They could say they are the inaugural group to be trendsetters on our campus.”
Before the school year began, a Google form was sent out through email to get an opinion on whether seniors would like to purchase and paint a spot.
“Every other school had senior parking spots,” Jose Gonzalez said. “We finally had the fortunate opportunity to have those senior parking spots.”
Neal said she wanted seniors to have the opportunities offered at surrounding schools.
“I never want Timberview to be left out or missing opportunities, especially fun opportunities,” Neal said. “I want all of our students to showcase their individuality, show an immense amount of school spirit and ownership and thrive at our school.”
The designated spots were originally in the back parking lot, but were changed to the front section of the school.
“A lot of seniors have late arrival,” Assistant Principal Michael Yeary said. “If they parked in the back, they would have (had) to walk all the way to the front to enter through the Evolv system.”
The colorful spots provide a permanent place for seniors to park.
“It’s convenient for me because I would normally park within that area anyways,” Andrea Clark said. “Now I have a confirmed first row parking, being spot #5.”
There were four days offered for students to paint, starting with Sept. 20, a student holiday. No painting was done outside of the following designated days and times.
“I plan to use three school colors which are maroon, black and an off-white color,” Aminah Hasani said.
Seniors spent multiple days working on their spots.
“I helped with Andrea’s parking over the span of two days out of the four offered and we used six to seven quarts of paint,” Hailey Le said. “Doing it alone is definitely hard, so I was happy to help to get her outcome.”
Neal, who is in her first year as principal here, said she wants to increase school spirit.
“Although the parking spot does not have to include Timberview specific information (logos, colors, etc.) many of our students are involved in extracurricular activities that they love and may represent in the parking spot designs,” Neal said.
One thing that had to be included in the design is Senior ’25 or Class of ’25 or C/O ’25 or 2025.
“Purchasing a spot was a (part) of my journey in my high school career,” Clark said. “To me it symbolizes the accumulation of effort, growth and memories over the years and gives me a sense of belonging during my final year.”
