With a District record of 7-2, the Girls Varsity Basketball team is working through the season.
“We’re working hard to beat all the district teams,” sophomore Nahla Square said. “We’re just trying to stay focused and work as a team.”
Lady Wolves stand as number two in the 5A Region I District 8.
“We’re young right now so we’re still trying to learn from each other and get our game plan together,” Coach Bryon McCollum said.
Last year the girls went to state and made it to the finals but lost 51-60, against Frisco Liberty in the final round.
“The team is working on their defense,” junior Sydney Gamble said. “It is important to work as a team for chemistry to build up.”
The team lost the majority of their seniors like Kamryn Wilson and Tamaiya Mims.
“It was tough because as far as the team’s identity, it was those girls that left,” Coach McCollum said. “Now, the younger girls have to establish their identity because everybody expects Timberview as a state team, but they are starting (over).”
With upcoming opponents including Summit High School, the girls are focusing on basic drills like shooting.
“It’s somewhat difficult because it’s a mix of last year’s JV and some of Varsity,” Square said. “We’re learning how to work together and see all of our different skill sets.”
