With a score of 20-6, the Varsity football team won their game against Kimball HS at Vernon Newsom Stadium, in Mansfield last Thursday night.
“We played well but after the first game,” Coach Guy Humes said. “We always have something to improve on to move on in a very tough district.”
This was the first district game. Varsity is 1-0. Kimball HS only scored once in the entire game.
“The first game was up and down,” Humes said. “We ran the ball well and played excellent defense.”
The heat was in the 90’s at the start of the game last night.
“After a few plays, I didn’t even realize the heat as I was focused on one thing,” junior Caden Bates said. “That was making sure I did my job.”
The next game is away at Ryan HS on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m.
“Something we need to work on is staying focused throughout the whole game,” Bates said. “Even when the other team isn’t doing something right, we have to stay focused for the whole 48 minutes.”
