With a score of 40-21, the Varsity football team won the Homecoming game against Birdville at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield, last Friday night.
“This game was really good for us. We’ve never been in a situation where we were down points,” senior Marco Herrera said. “I’m really proud of how our team was able to rally up and come back and conquer through adversity.”
The Varsity team is now 6-0, maintaining their winning streak throughout the HOCO week.
“First half was a shaky start, we could’ve played better but (in the) second half we got things going,” senior Myland Wise said. “Luckily, we finished out strong and won the game.”
The Wolves were down 21-14 ending the first half. By the end of the game, the offense scored four more touchdowns while the defense stopped Birdville’s attack.
“The second half we got fewer penalties on us,” junior Isaiah Chisholm said. “We started playing cleaner, and overall just played better which led us to victory.”
This week is a bye week meaning there will be no game.
“(The result) really gives me hope for the playoffs because our competition will be harder,” Herrera said. “I’m just proud of how we performed.”
