With a score of 71-7, the Varsity football team won their second district game against R.L. Turner at Vernon Newsom Stadium last Thursday, which was also Senior Night.
“It was a pretty good game, coming out scoring 21 points in the first quarter,” senior Joshua Neroes said. “I got a touchdown, my best friend got a touchdown, everybody scored pretty much on offense so it was a pretty good day. “
The Varsity team is now 2-0 in district and 4-0 overall. Turner only scored once the entire game.
“We still have some places that we’ve got to improve, but we need to stay at that level,” junior Aiden Carlisle said. “We can’t go back down to our opponent’s level. We’ve got to stay at our level.”
Senior Jaxson Mitchell said that everyone came out ready to play.
“Man, it was great, I got to play quarterback one more time so that was the highlight of my career right there,” Mitchell said. “Tonight was pretty good and I got a rushing touchdown.”
Their next game is away, this Friday against Newman Smith at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton, at 7 p.m.
“Next game we have a tough opponent, so we’ve got to lock in and do our best,” Carlisle said. “When we play our type of football, we can do the same thing we did today.”
