With a score of 35-0, the Varsity football team won their first game against South Grand Prairie at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield, last Thursday night.
“We came out here, got a good showing and worked hard,” senior Marco Herrera said. “We put the business in, the better team won today, and I can’t wait until next week.”
Varsity is starting off strong with a 1-0 win record. South Grand Prairie did not score once the entire game.
“I thought the game went really well; however, there are still a lot of things we need to work on,” senior Nicholas Alexander said. “Overall, we did a pretty good job, we just need to keep improving every single week.”
After watching the film, Special Teams Coordinator Coach Jason Young said there are some mistakes that must be fixed before the next game.
“The game was good, SGP didn’t bring the competition we had hoped for,” senior Tyler Strumila said. “We beat them by 35 and left them scoreless, which in the end is a pretty successful game.”
The next game is away this Thursday night, against Sam Houston at 7 p.m., at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington.
“Next game we play Sam Houston,” Herrera said. “We are prepared mentally and are extremely excited to go into next week while bringing the hype and the hurt to Sam Houston.”
