After their win against Temple High School, the Lady Wolves advance to the next round.

With a score of 56-31, the Girls Varsity Basketball team won against Temple High School, advancing to the next playoff round as Bi-District Champions.

“You know it’s for all the marbles every night, and it always feels good to win the first one,” Head Coach Kit Martin said. “It’s survive and advance.”

Martin said the team played well defensively.

“We were able to get 13 different players into the game by the end,” she said. “That is a great feeling.”

The next game will be at L.D. Bell tonight at 7 p.m.

“If we play like we’re supposed to, then we are going all the way,” senior JaLea Bennett said.

L.D. Bell has a 26-2 overall record.

‘They are a pressing, running team that we will have some match-up problems with,” Martin said. “They will have trouble with us on our offensive end. I think it will be a great game to come watch.”

The seniors on the team have now been to playoffs every year, however the school hasn’t won state since 2010.

“We have the most talent in the district and we work really hard,” senior Megan Badejo said.

The team includes three underclassmen.

“Our younger players help us out especially with being quicker on their feet and helping us when we get into foul trouble,” Badejo said.

New player, sophomore Allyson Hinds, said being on the team has improved her work ethic.

“During freshman year, you’re basically playing the same people, but on Varsity you’re playing people that may be up to three years older than you,” she said.

Even though other schools’ seasons are winding down, the girls are still practicing to increase their odds at winning the state championship.

“It’s natural at this time of the year for the excitement of the upcoming playoffs and the intensity to naturally elevate,” Martin said.

This is Martin’s second year as coach.

“I love the team and the kids here,” Martin said. “I love the atmosphere and the school spirit.”
