Red Sox Should Win World Series
It’s referred to as the Fall Classic. Aspiring young boys dream of playing on this stage: bottom of the ninth, three balls, two strikes, tied game, loaded bases, a dream that might come true for only a select few. The history of upsets, blowouts and just plain mind blowing plays have all been a part of this momentous event.
Yes, it is finally time again for the World Series of Baseball. The historical, and heavy bats of the Boston Red Sox will face the experienced, ace-studded pitching rotation of the 2011 Champions St. Louis Cardinals.
Of the last 25 championship series games, the team who won the first game has won the series 21 times. The Sox have home field advantage, and the odds are in their favor. However, St. Louis has heavily relied on their experienced pitching staff and rookie sensation Michael Wacha. His stunning debut in the postseason has been quite the show to fans, but a nightmare for his opponents with a 0.43 ERA, and a playoff record of three wins to no losses. The Cardinals especially need the rook, and the pitching staff to step up in a hitter’s ballpark like Fenway.
The season for Boston has been emotional, exciting and very consistent in the win column. With an overall record of 97 wins to 65 loses, Boston has the most wins in the American League, and is tied with oddly enough, the Cardinals with the most wins out of both leagues. With his powerful bat, David Ortiz produced 30 home runs (American League 8th best), 103 runs batted in (AL 7th best) and had a batting average of .309 (AL 6th best). Ortiz, Big Papi, has defied father time yet again by proving his abilities haven’t aged with him. The Sox need his consistency to roll over into the series, and the other hot bats on the team, to counteract the Cardinals phenomenal pitching abilities.
For the first time in a few years, there isn’t a clear underdog or powerhouse in the World Series. The Red Sox and Cardinals are at the moment the best two baseball teams in the world, which makes this series very tight and entertaining. While the Sox are heavily dependent on hitting, the Cardinals balance it out with superb pitching abilities.
There are so many little elements that contribute to the balancing act that is the question, but who is the better team? So it’s very hard to predict who will win in such a tight race, however the Red Sox will overpower the Cardinals pitching and shut down the cold bats of St. Louis in six to seven games. No matter the outcome, it will be one of the most anticipated and entertaining World Series in sometime.
