The campus goal for seniors to complete Texas College Bridge is March 28.
“We expect students to be finished with this important requirement this month,” Assistant Principal Wendell Joubert said. “The state requires us to have all seniors graduating to be college, career, military and life ready.”
Texas College Bridge is a Math and English Readiness Program for seniors. The program gives students the opportunity to review basic skills that they have learned throughout their years of school.
“I had to do a lot of courses,” senior Keeley Wade said. “It helped that I could go at my own pace. The work wasn’t hard at all.”
Most seniors have started completing the personalized and self-paced online program.
“I finished my College Bridge over winter break,” senior Sophia Vidales said. “Every day I would make time to do some of my work.”
Students who pass their TSI assessments in both English and Math are exempt from the program.
“I passed my English TSI in the summer but I still had to do College Bridge for math though,” Vidales said. “Unfortunately, now I have to take the TSI anyway for math placement for Texas Tech classes.”
Joubert said it also helps students save money for college by not having to take basic remedial classes, which don’t count toward their college degrees.
“This program helps students remember skills from as far back as middle school,” he said. “It’s a good refresher before going off to college.”
Seniors can also earn an Industry-Based Certification by completing all the criteria.
“I took the College Readiness Math elective class to get ahead for my senior year,” Wade said. “It has all helped me become ready for college.”
Students must complete the program to graduate in May.
“We don’t want any student to leave here without anything that they can use later on in life,” Joubert said. “Our goal is always 100%.”
