Helping Those In Need Through Adopt an Angel

With the holidays just around the corner, the thought of helping others often comes to mind.

“It is important for people to give what they can whenever they can,” Art Club Sponsor Dallas Williams said. “Everyone needs help some days.”

This year seven families with 14 children, ages 2 to 12, have been helped.

“We have always done it and it seems really special to the high school students,” Williams said. “It feels amazing to help and aid people.”

To participate in Adopt an Angel, an organization must pledge to buy and raise money for what the family needs or wants for the holiday.

“This routine begins with emailing teachers and asking if clubs, teams, or classes want to participate in the program then asking how many they can (sponsor),” sophomore Madison Ratliff, who is in charge of the program, said.

Ratliff said the process can be lengthy.

“The sponsors then divide the children through all of the participants and issue out the family’s information like the child’s gender, age, etc,” she said.

Ratliff herself knows how it feels to not be able to get the things she wanted.

“I’ve always had a Christmas, I just haven’t always had other things normal kids have,” she said. “I want to help other children have the things they’ve been missing out on.”
