With only four locations in the U.S. and nine more opening in late 2024, McDonald’s has started a new sister-chain restaurant, CosMc’s. In comparison to its competitor Starbucks, CosMc’s seems to have an experimental concept.
The new chain is named CosMc’s as an ode to McDonald’s ’80s character named CosMc. He was part alien-part-robot (and part-time surfer). Opening in 2023, CosMc’s is known for its self-service kiosks and fast workers, but most importantly, its unique drinks. The business, which opened March 19, is off of Abrams Street next to UTA.
When first walking in, I noticed how clean it was, the floors were scrubbed and the air smelled like fresh strawberries. The idea of the no-contact payment and ordering at McDonald’s was carried over to CosMc’s. With no indoor seating and no drive-thru, this restaurant is an introvert’s paradise.
I tried two drinks, one food item and one frozen item. I selected the Tropical Spiceade, Pomegranate Hibiscus Slush, Strawberry & Cookie McFlurry, and last but not least, a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, with extra Spicy Queso on the side. All of the items had a distinct and special taste that I’d never had before. With each bite and sip taken, each one of my tastebuds became mesmerized. The drinks and ice cream were around $4.60 each for a small. Food items were about $5, making a total of around $20 for four items.
Walking out, I asked my sister if she enjoyed the drink she got. She replied, “It doesn’t taste as good compared to the Starbucks one.” I took note of the overlapping menus of Starbucks and CosMc’s. My sister got the Spiceade, which closely resembles the Starbucks Dragon Fruit Mango Refresher. Additionally, the prices of each size were similar to other coffee companies. However, I don’t think Starbucks has anything to worry about.
Students should try CosMc’s. Trying out the new and exciting restaurant is worth the drive. With a large and unique menu, there is something for everyone to try and enjoy.
