With Halloween right around the corner, many horror movies are at your disposal. Watching scary films is an experience that needs to take place at the movie theater, rather than from the comfort of your couch.
The sequel to the hit ‘The Nun,’ is a supernatural horror movie produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and was released on Sept. 8. The Nun 2 showcases a different event than its predecessor in a new location, a church in France. The children attending the church become aware of a priest becoming possessed and killed. They decide to look for the cause while also getting themselves into trouble. Sister Irene, who returns for the second installment, helps combat the evil as she believes it came back to get her.
The Nun 2 has already earned $250 million at the box office. There is a wide audience that can enjoy the universe of the Nun as even my grandma enjoyed the first film. It creates just enough horror for Halloween.
The Exorcist: Believer has the same main concept as The Nun 2, but it gives the audience the nostalgic feeling of seeing an actor step into the shoes of their old role.
The next installment of the iconic series, The Exorcist: Believer, was released on Oct. 6. Ellen Burstyn reprised her role as the mom, Chris MacNeil, from the cult classic film first released in 1973. The plot follows two friends, Katherine and Angela, who get possessed by a demon after disappearing in the woods. The trailer shows Angela’s father, Victor, who would do anything for his daughter, and the extent he goes to is unbelievable. He seeks out MacNeil as their last option because she is the only one who has gone through a similar situation.
Having an original character from the 1973 movie brings some nostalgia to older audiences watching it. The original Exorcist has been called the most frightening movie of all time. Believer hopes to continue the reputation.
If you prefer to watch non-supernatural horror, your best bet would be Saw X, as it is a classic serial killer story.
Released on Sept. 29, Saw X was arguably the most anticipated horror movie of the year. John Kramer (Jigsaw) wishes to get cured of terminal brain cancer, which was introduced in the first installment. He decides to fly to Mexico for an experimental procedure. Later on, he finds out the entire procedure was a scam, and the workers, Cecilia, Mateo, Valentina and Dr. Cortez, were fakes. The notorious Jigsaw tests whether the new targets can make it out alive in one piece.
Saw X is the tenth installment of the series. This is seen as a revenge arc for Jigsaw, as he didn’t plan for his latest game to happen. Since the workers decided to scam him, why not make a fun game of survival for them to play?
With Saw X being more horror-based, Five Nights at Freddy’s is PG-13 and can be enjoyable, with some precaution, for the whole family.
Based on the video game series, Five Night at Freddy’s follows Mike Schmidt, played by Josh Hutcherson, who is given a security position at Fazbear Pizzeria. He brings along his younger sister, Abby. A police officer, Vanessa Monroe, comes into the picture letting Mike in on the dark and sinister history of the pizzeria. The pizzeria, which was opened in the ‘80s, shut down after kids mysteriously went missing. Mike works to survive the night but is it too late?
This is a horror movie that I am excited to watch. Using the video game series, paired with lore adds to my interest in the movie. Surely, the movie theaters will be filled with fans on Oct. 27.
