Rihanna Releases Highly Anticipated Album

Dallas Johnson, Staff Writer

It’s been three long years since Rihanna has released “Unapologetic.” Fans were outraged and almost caused a riot on social media when they left 2015 without hearing even a song from her highly anticipated eighth studio album, “Anti.” Well everybody, stop your Twitter fingers and check out her latest studio release.

The album is now available on iTunes. However, Rihanna first released her new project “Anti” exclusively on Tidal streaming service last week. The project was suppose to come out as a surprise on Friday morning but a version was leaked online, which forced Tidal to release the album early.

A big surprise is that Rihanna did not include any of her recent chart-toppers like “FourFiveSeconds” or “American Oxygen.” Rihanna has spent countless hours in the studio honing her writing and vocal skills. All her hard work has paid off. “Anti” isn’t like any other album out right now. Rihanna blends her emotional past with her strong voice which makes magic for our ears.

“Woo” is a perfect example. Rihanna brings a little bit of everything in this song. She uses a great hip-hop instrumental that compliments her voice and lyrics to give it even more shape.

The song with that has quickly gained the most popularity is “Work.” Rihanna teams up with superstar Drake and creates magic. She uses her old pop tropical sound and blends it with Drake’s smooth hip-hop flow. This unique combination gives the listener a new upbeat sound that’s not really heard on the album.

Rihanna reminds us that she is an incredible songwriter and vocalist on the song “Needed Me.” She attacks listeners’ core emotions in this track. The backbone for this song is her powerful vocals and her heartbroken tone of voice. Her reminiscences of past loves give the listener a bit of nostalgia.

“Anti” has all the elements of a great album. Little featured artists, catchy songs and raw emotion. This will be the most talked album about of the year. If you haven’t heard it, rush out and get it.
