Taylor Swift Embraces Different Style with New Album

After taking time off for two years, Taylor Swift is back with her fifth album “1989.” Change is the theme of the album. She expresses her new attitude toward men and dating, but the big picture is that Swift has left behind the young country artist to embrace a new upbeat pop culture. She has always been known for her numerous break-ups and love stories, but Swift adds a twist with the revealing messages in her songs.

Swift is on her way to a very successful year. In the first week that it was released, she sold more than a million copies. Swift’s fourth album “Red” released in 2012 was a huge hit for her, but in one of Taylor’s interviews she mentions that “1989” will be even bigger.

As of press time “Shake it Off”, ranked as number two on iTunes, has grabbed the attention of all her haters out there. It’s one of those tunes that even on your worst days, makes you want to sing along and dance.

Another popular song is “Blank Space.” The rhythm is so upbeat that there are no words to explain it. The message is “There Once Was a Girl Known by Everyone and No One.” It sounds mysterious to me. I guess only Swift knows what she was singing about.

When you hear the lyrics to “Bad Blood” it just makes you want to knock down all the trash cans on your street and sing as loud as you can without a care in the world. Also, it was supposedly written about Katy Perry. Who knows what other celebrity was on Swift’s naughty list.

No matter how hard she tries, Swift always ends up going back to the same bad habits. Rumor has it that three of the songs are written about Harry Styles, “I Wish You Would,” “As You Stay” and “Style.” I’ve heard too many times that they suffered a bad break up, so we can all let this one slide and allow Swift the satisfying closure of another dating mistake.

One of my favorites on the album is “Wildest Dreams.” The song greatly resembles “Without You” by Lana Del Ray. I admire Swift for being motivated by a great artist, but let’s just say that original songs are always the best.

Swift has succeeded on making her album sound very 80s. All the titles are optimistic and catchy, and it’s hard not to like them. Swift really made a strong statement with her songs, something I think you will notice if you take a listen. Overall, the album doesn’t disappoint and is worth the cost.
