X-men: Days of Future Past had a wide range of special effects.

X-men: Days of Future Past, the movie I have been anticipating the most, is finally here. Although, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender return as younger versions of Professor X and Magneto, the movie wasn’t as satisfying as I hoped it would be. The humor and interactions between characters made for an enjoyable watch, but the film as a whole just didn’t meet my high standards.

In a desolate broken-down New York City, the mutant population is being killed off with the use of a powerful morphing robot called the Sentinel. The surviving mutants have to fight for their lives, but come up with a strategy to protect each other and prevent attacks.

The movie revolves around Hugh Jackman, Wolverine, returning to 1973 to try and stop Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence, from committing a crime that gives the government the key to creating Bolivar Trask’s Sentinels. Wolverine struggles with staying in between time periods and facing younger versions of people he has come to know well in the future.

Meanwhile, the mutants in the future seek refuge in an isolated hideout. Time becomes their enemy because whatever changes in the future will take immediate action in the present. Even though the movie is focused on the characters of the past, the fighting sequences, superpowers and humor create an action-packed film in both the present and future.

There was a wide range of special effects. Audiences got their first look at Quicksilver played by Evan Peters as Wolverine and Beast try to break Magneto out of a high security prison to get his help. Things never go quite smoothly for Wolverine however, and the mutants are faced with new challenges and obstacles.

The movie, which primarily focused on Mystique, was entertaining and the storyline was interesting, but it left many unanswered questions and the audience wanting more. Hopefully, some of these questions can be answered in the sequel, X-men: Apocalypse.
