2048 Hooks Players

2048 is an addictive new game that is compared to Candy Crush.

Adding two and two together doesn’t seem that hard, unless you’re playing the new addictive app 2048. Soaring to the top at number two in the App Store, 2048 is the puzzle game everyone is raving about.

This app, by 19-year-old Italian web designer Gabriele Cirulli, was released on March 9. He designed 2048 as a test to see if he could program a game from scratch. People have said the game is like Candy Crush for math geeks.

In order to play the game, players need to combine two tiles on a four by four grid with the same number. Starting with two, the numbers continue to double until the tile 2048 is reached. After merging two matching tiles, another will pop up randomly in one of the empty spaces. The more tiles combined, the higher the score gets. Once all the spaces on the grid are filled up and there are no more moves left, it’s game over.

Few have yet to beat the game with the magic number 2048. There are many theories going around that players should keep the biggest number in a corner. Another strategy is only swiping the tiles up the whole round or swiping down. Other players agree that it’s not about technique, but about luck and knowing when to move the tiles at just the right moment.

If you haven’t downloaded the game yet, trust me, you will. Just don’t get your phone taken up in class because of it like I did. Remember don’t get frustrated, keep calm and keep swiping.
