The Wiz kept student’s interest, which led to the show being close to sold-out.

For the first time, the Fine Arts Department came together to perform The Wiz, a winter show, which ran the last weekend of January.

“We’re all in the same hall, yet we hardly ever see each other, so it was really cool to come together,” Theater President Flordeluna Flores said.

The Wiz retells the story of another well-known classic The Wizard of Oz.

“I’m very pleased that we did something in which everyone could feel equally a part of,” Theater Teacher Melissa Danforth said.

The play’s subject interested most students.

“When you hear The Wiz, its something that we can all say we know and love,” Assistant Stage Manager Desirea White.

The cast was filled with many new faces, as much of the cast had never been involved in a live musical before.

“It was my first debut on a stage,” junior Toria Porter said. “I felt honored to be a part of it; it was a success.”

Due to No Pass, No Play, several of the actors were recast.

“We had a lot of mishaps,” Flores said. “We actually lost a large amount of our cast at one point, but we still pulled through it.”

The three-night performance was close to a sell-out.

“It was such a cool thing to see,” junior Casssandra Villareal said. “I haven’t seen the school perform anything like that before.”
