One Direction Takes New Direction In Their Sound

One Directions new CD has a more classical rock feel to it.

One Direction’s new CD has a more classical rock feel to it.

The new album “Midnight Memories” reveals a more sophisticated side of One Direction and possesses a more classic rock sound than the electronic dance music in their previous album “Take Me Home”.

The 14-track album was the fastest selling CD of the year with over 234,000 copies sold in its’ first week of release until Beyonce released her self-titled visual album last week.

“Midnight Memories” starts out with the popular hit  “Best Song Ever”, which jumped onto Billboard charts at number two. Even though critics feel that the song is similar to the song “Baba O’Riley” by the “The Who”, listeners are going nuts over it.

The group sticks to the well-known upbeat tune in “Diana” and “Happily”, but adds a mixture of light rock. Both songs are catchy and filled with energetic lyrics that will make listeners jump right up and dance.

Songs like “Story of My Life” and “Through The Dark” display the band’s country folk side and express an indie-like feel with a blend of folk rock. This song debuted at number six on Billboard charts and is still being overplayed by radio stations.

The album includes a few downbeat mellow tracks like “Right Now” and “You and I”, which give off an acoustic coffee shop vibe. The relaxing tunes sooths listeners through each strum of the guitar.

The title alone, “Little Black Dress” explains itself with its mature lyrics. The explicit content truly shows the group’s darker side, which gives off a true ‘80s rock vibe and an edgier sound than before.

As One Direction has grown, so has their music from teen pop to a more mature sound that experiments with different genres from classic rock to folk. Because of the wide ranges of sounds, this album will appeal to a much wider audience.
