Toys for Tots Wednesday
December 2, 2019
Toys will be collected in the main office for the 8th Annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive and Community Event on Dec. 4, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., at the MISD Center for Performing Arts.
“This a great opportunity for students to give back to kids through the donations of brand-new toys,” Assistant Principal Janelle Tanner said.
New, unwrapped toys will be donated to those less fortunate.
“To give to somebody who usually wouldn’t get anything just fills my heart,” senior Martin Gomez said.
The district-wide event will feature an eight-foot snow hill, live reindeer, pictures with Santa and performances by MISD students.
“Every school, starting at the district level, joined in, along with the Salvation Army and Fox 4 News, to develop this big program to collect these toys to support kids during the holidays,” Tanner said.
All clubs and extracurriculars have been challenged to donate 15 toys per group.
“This idea came from the middle school that I was formerly at, where we challenged our seventh and eighth-graders to donate toys so I thought it would be a fun challenge to get all the clubs involved to contribute to this great cause,” Tanner said. “We can show off a collective effort that Timberview cares about our kids and our community.”
Tanner said giving back is important.
“All kids want to wake up to gifts on Christmas morning, it makes them smile and feel happy about themselves,” Tanner said. “It helps to create a positive self-image to help them feel like they are loved and that someone outside of their family cares about their success.”
