With midterms election around the corner, students approaching 18 or those who are already 18 are encouraged to attend voter registrations in the library on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

“It is important to register to vote because our voting is our way of electing officials who will carry our views, our ideas, and our thoughts to the national dialogue.” Librarian Jennifer Rikes said.

Coach Lindsay Matthews said that she feels most students are not prepared for the voting world and politics.

“A lot of students, the 18-year olds that go to vote don’t know who to vote for and they generally are confused about the voting process and that scares them,” she said.

Senior Joey Ferris said that we should all vote and that it is very essential to our country.

“We should vote because we don’t want a person that is untrusted to be in the position to make important decisions for us.”  He said.

The senior social studies, government, economics, Psychology, and Sociology teachers are helping to educate students on the voter registration process. Once students are eighteen they will be provided with voter registration cards.

“We have done things both inside and outside of class to help students,” Matthews said.

To encourage students to vote, the school has joined the national voter registration day. If you have any questions about the process you can ask Rike.

“I tend to do one on one with students.” She said.

Senior Marquiss Childs expressed that people who have the ability to vote should be more involved in our country’s future.

“We need to think about our future more often,” Childs said. “We show a huge lack of interest in who runs our country and who represents us.”
