Varsity Basketball Boys Defeat State Champions
February 7, 2017
With a score of 109-82, the Varsity Basketball Boys defeated the Lancaster Tigers last Friday night.
“I felt good about the win,” senior Tim Johnson said. “Not many teams get a chance to sweep the defending state champions in a season.”
The Lancaster Tigers have won the past two State Championships.
“The kids played hard and kept to the game plan,” Head Coach Duane Gregory said. “When we share the ball in transition and focus on sticking to the plan, we’re hard to stop. We saw that with a good win, against a great team.”
Johnson said that the ultimate prize is finishing the season with a championship.
“Although the victory felt good, we still have another big game coming up,” he said. “We must stay focused on one game at a time if want to reach our goal for the year, which is making it to state.”
The team won the last four games.
“Preparation is key to any victory,” junior Isaac Likekele said. “Practicing every day with a winning mindset is what helps us remain victorious this season.”
Tonight, the team will face off against the undefeated Waxahachie Indians.
“Last time we weren’t focused but we’re ready now,” Likekele said. “The goal is to come out strong and fight for the win.”
