After months of practice, the Theatre Department will be putting on a production of Peter and the Star-catcher at the MISD Performing Arts Center from Oct. 20 -22, at 7 p.m.

“From the beginning I was going over the whole script and making sure I understood the story,” senior Sydney Jones said. “Now we have to work together and make sure the story is cohesive.”

Director Melissa Danforth said she did a lot of research to make sure they were respectful to the original production, while still making it their own.

“I watched a lot of videos on YouTube to see the other ideas of it and searched how the show got started,” she said.

The cast started rehearsing in August.

“The best part of the process is when the actors come up with ideas of their own,” Danforth said. “They start to implement them and we are able to take it further.”

While the cast is rehearsing on stage, the technical crew is backstage creating the set.

“I had the most fun with the proscenium arch,” Technical Director Samantha Dunaway said. “It was a very creative project and it moved pretty fast.”

Along with the arch, the tech crew built a revolving platform.

“The turntable has been my greatest accomplishment,” Dunaway said. “I’m very proud of it, but it was a frustrating part of the process.”

Senior Kacie Pimentel said that the cast and crew faced many obstacles, but continued to keep each other motivated so that everyone worked hard.

“With my past experience from other shows, I know that no matter what it pays off because this is a learning experience and everyone always gets something out of it,” she said.

Danforth is looking forward to opening night on Thursday.

“Watching the audience is what I do the whole time,” she said. “I watch and I just get really excited when they love and react to stuff. It makes me super happy.”
