The school has begun “Focus Fridays” which is time dedicated for students to receive tutoring and enrichment based on their academic needs.
“I like it because I get time to catch up on everything I need,” junior Trinity Brown said. “It helps me stay on track and keep my grades up.”
On Fridays teachers will utilize the last 30 minutes of every instructional block for student remediation and extensions to lessons.
“Students are expected to be working on some type of lesson for that classroom at this time,” Assistant Principal Wendell Joubert said. ¨It is not a Study Hall.
Administrators decided that this time would allow teachers to keep students on target with their academic lessons, Joubert said.
“Since we removed Advisory from the day, we felt like Focus Friday would benefit the students more to have built in time in every classroom to achieve their academic progression goals,” Joubert said.
Focus Friday also gives teachers time to plan ahead with their PLCs to provide student remediation in needed areas.
“It’s a great opportunity for students and teachers,” teacher Lindsay Pate said. “It gives us time to help students in need so they are able to progress.”
