As junior Alex Torres unwraps his two-in-one birthday and Christmas present from one of his family members, he can’t help but wish his friends were here to celebrate the double occasion with him.

”I don’t get to see any of my friends on Christmas because everybody is with their families,” he said.

Sophomore Kevin Ly, who also shares the same birthday, said he doesn’t mind not being the center of attention during his celebration.

“I mostly don’t care because it’s Christmas, and they (friends and family) deserve a gift as well,” he said.

Torres said that he never really tells anybody his birth date, but those that know usually give him one gift for both occasions.

“Family and close friends are the only people that give me two gifts,” he said. “My birthday is always overlooked.”

Ly said even though there are many reasons to dislike being born on the holiday, he wouldn’t change a thing.

“I love Christmas no matter what,” he said.

For him it’s an honor to have been born on that day, even if he doesn’t spend time with his friends, Torres said.

“I’m glad I’m born on Christmas,” he said. “It’s a blessing and some people don’t realize that.”
