Varsity Volleyball Loses Against Legacy

The Varsity Volleyball team faced off against the Mansfield Legacy Broncos in an away game last Tuesday, ending 3-1.

“We started off pretty good, the best we had so far, and proved to ourselves we could finish a set,” junior Kaitlyn Nwonumah said. “We lacked energy and faith in each other.”

The defeat mirrors the loss against Legacy in the 2016 season, with a 3-0 score.

“We played much better (than last year),” Coach Beth Wills said. “This year we won the first game and put ourselves in a position to win game three but just couldn’t get it done. We beat ourselves.”

The players have been working in preparation for their game against the number one ranked school in the district, the Red Oak Hawks.

“I would say we are in one of the toughest districts,” Wills said. “All four of the teams that made playoffs made it into regional quarterfinals and for four teams in the same district to play each other after the first two rounds, that is really unusual.”

The home game will be in the Varsity Gym this Friday at 7 p.m.

“Hopefully, someone steps up and says, ‘hey, I’ll take y’all on my back and we can head to victory,’” Coach Jonathan Newton said. “Stay positive and don’t let a few losses get into your head. It’s not going to come easy but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.”
