In the beginning of the season, Junior Desmond Clark choose to be number 3 for our Varsity Boys Basketball team. “I choose that number because that was the age when my father put the ball in my hands” said Clark.

With a score of 76-56, the Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated the Red Oak Hawks last Tuesday at home.

“It’s great that we got the win tonight in such a dominating fashion,” Assistant Coach Matthew Workman said. “I’m glad to see how last week’s two victories gave a boost to the team’s confidence to help extend the winning streak to three games.”

They entered the third quarter with a score of 27-29.

“They came out with great defensive execution,” senior Williams Owens said. “Coach (Duane) Gregory made adjustments to our game plan at halftime to try and make it easier for us to move the ball around and score. Once we got into the new rhythm of the offense, victory came easy.

Senior Tim Johnson said that last year’s loss in the semifinals round of the playoffs brought the players closer together.

“This team is a family,” he said. “We treat our relationship like a brotherhood. Win or lose, we still remain a family fighting for one common goal (to) make it back to playoffs.”

The team will face off against the Midlothian Panthers tomorrow night in the Varsity Gym at 8 p.m.

“The future of the basketball program is strong,” Workman said. “We have a lot of young talent and I’m excited to see how they will make a name for themselves as the season goes on.”
