The Varsity Girls Basketball Team solidified their position as number one in the state with a close 59-57 win over Canyon on Dec. 30^th.

“I’m excited about this year,” point guard Chennedy Carter said. “We’re going to keep working hard and try to stay number one.”

Currently the girls are 21-0, which is the best record in all of Texas.

“Everybody doubted us because were a younger team,” shooting guard Jaryanna Ward said. “That motivates us to go out and perform highly.”

Coach Kit Martin said the team’s success is contributed to last year’s experiences.

“We’re more experienced (now),” Martin said. “We have a lot of returning players with Varsity experience. That’s valuable; you cant find that anywhere else.”

With the win, they are now ranked number 12 in the nation.

“It is a huge honor,” Martin said.

The next game is today against Summit at 6:30 p.m. in the Varsity Gym.
