The football team will play Lancaster on Sept. 26.

As football season progresses, the varsity football team grows closer to the possibility of state with every win.

“We have a great group, they play for each other and believe they can win,” Varsity Football Coach Robert R. Johnson said.

The team has a good chance of winning district, he said.

“I think we’ll win the championship with our active linebackers, Mansfield move-in and more move-ins,” Johnson said.

Quarterback Devin Williams, one of the move-ins, has 294-yards.

“The quarterback is one of the most important positions on the team, ” Johnson said. “Devin has been this class’ quarterback since the seventh grade. He expects to win it all this year.”

The defense is contributing more toward the wins, junior Michael Badejo said.

“We can stop the other team from scoring and we can score as well, but offense can only score the ball,” he said.

The team suffered their first loss of the season against Midway on Sept. 11.

“That loss was disappointing, but we have to focus on upcoming games,” Williams said.

Friday’s game will be against Lancaster at RL Anderson Stadium.

Johnson said to remember, “The strength of the wolf is the pack.”
