Golf Tournament Funds Athletic Programs
In order to raise money for their sports programs, Coaches James Brown and Robert Johnson held a golf tournament and skills competition to benefit the football and baseball teams last weekend.
“Coach Brown and myself decided to do a fundraiser to help our programs, and baseball’s parent organization set up,” Johnson said.
Both baseball and football benefited from the event.
“We raised money to help support our programs,” Johnson said. “We’re going to try to buy new uniforms and equipment, which we will need for practices or games next year.”
Defensive Coordinator Coach Tommy Neal said he wasn’t just in it for a round of golf.
“My motivation for playing in the tournament was that the money being raised goes back to our athletic programs,” he said. “It was a chance to have fun and raise money for our athletes and programs.”
The tournament gained sponsorship from professional businesses.
“We received some help from Rooms to Go,” Johnson said. “They sponsored some teams and donated a television for the raffle.”
Neal said that it was a great day.
“I was really looking forward to playing golf and visiting with the people playing in the tournament,” he said. “It was an exceptional day.”
