The Varsity Softball team is advancing to playoffs for the second year in a row.

The Varsity Softball team is advancing to playoffs against Marcus this weekend, for the second year, after the first round win against Copperas Cove in two games.

“It feels good to be back, but we are in the same position as last year,” sophomore Mariah Denson said.

The team secured the District Champions title again with 13-1, as their final record.

“We, as a team, have more experience than we did last year,” Denson said.

The team now faces Marcus, who took them out of the playoffs last year.

“We have to find a way to get past Marcus this year,” Denson said.

Senior Mayan Meza Tovar said this is a completely different team, mentally and physically who is fully prepared.

“Last year we didn’t know what to expect from playoffs,” Meza Tovar said. “I think the main difference is the fact that we are underrated.”

The team has been practicing every day to make sure they are ready for Friday.

“We have been preparing since August,” Head Coach Donya Mooney said. “We are being very specific in our workouts to limit the risk for injuries.”

Even though the series against Copperas Cove was close, the Lady Wolves came through and won.

“We expect to make a deeper run in the playoffs this year,” Mooney said.

Tovar said because the girls play for the smallest school in the district, they don’t get their recognition.

She said, “People tend to look over us and that’s what fuels our fire.”
