Track Team Continues Down Right Path

After two successful track meets, Boys Head Coach Keylon Kincade said he is hoping members of the track team will continue to work hard.

“This group of kids is more experienced and grasps coaching quickly,” he said.

At the Legacy Bronco Relays meet at Legacy, the Boy’s Varsity relay track team placed first.

“This is one of the fastest times in the state,” Kincade said.

The team consists of Myron Gailliard, Travonne Armstead, Ryan Dean and Jeremy Nwonumah.

“We can do big things for Timberview and we are fast enough to make it to state,” senior Ryan Dean said.

Another strength for the team is the field events, sophomore Michael Badejo said.

“The best we have are Kelsey Johnson and Bry Lawrence in the long and triple jump and we have Brandon Perry in the high jump,” he said.

As of the Legacy meet, Perry is ranked the #1 high jumper in the nation with a 6’8” jump.

“It feels good but I know I will have to work hard to keep my title,” he said. “Breaking it was good and that put me nationally ranked in that
Event.”

The chance to make it to state seems likely, senior Demarcus Crenshaw said.

“I want all of our relays to make it to state and for the individuals to have good times,” he said.

Crenshaw said the cold weather has been an issue for the runners.

“We haven’t been able to work on hand offs and running on the wood floors in the gym is getting everyone’s legs aching,” he said. “We need to be outside hitting the track.”

Kincade said the team is on the right path.

“Posting fast times are gratifying, being that our hard work and preparation paid off,” he said. “It’s exhilarating to see my team full of joy.”
