Varsity Football Wins Homecoming Game

The Varsity football team wins Homecoming against South Grand Prairie.

With a score of 14-7, the Varsity football team won Homecoming against South Grand Prairie at Newsom last Friday night, despite having two touchdowns called back.

“I was disappointed and I had a few choice words that I wanted to say when they brought the touchdowns all the way back,” junior Myron Gailliard said. “The reason it was brought back was because another player did a block in the back penalty.”

Head Coach James Brown said the penalties were unfortunate.

“We needed them (the touchdown plays),” Coach James Brown said.“Those plays could have really changed the momentum of the game in our favor.”

Senior Ryan Dean made a key play.

“I was excited when I got the fumble recovery,” he said.

The next two games are away.

“At home or on the road, our players understand how difficult it is to win our district,” Brown said. “They will be ready.”

The team’s record is 6-1.

“We can’t think about the play-offs until we actually get in the play-offs,” Brown said.

The next away game will be Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

“We always like playing Cedar Hill,” Brown said. “ They are a really good team and we seem to play well against good teams.”
