Woo Hoo Crew Honors Graduating Seniors
April 1, 2016
“The Woo Hoo Crew is an AVID (Initiative) to ensure that we’re college ready,” teacher Heather Hogue said. “(After) any student (gets) accepted into a college (and) lets us know, we gather a crew of people, announce it to the classes they’re in and shower them with candy.”
Seniors need to bring a copy of their acceptance letters to the Counseling Office to be honored.
“We compile a list of students to highlight the visibility of college acceptance around the school,” Hogue said.
Senior Mark Simmons was honored at the event.
“It was really nice to be cheered for,” he said. “I want to either go to UTA or North Texas, and not a lot of kids knew that.”
Hogue said some students are unaware of their peer’s accomplishments.
“We don’t want our seniors to slip quietly into the night,” she said.
Promoting college is the goal, Hogue said.
“It’s a great idea for the kids,” she said. “To reward seniors for all their effort and to see their faces light up when their classmates realize what an honor they achieved is one of the highlights of my time here.”
