Show Choir to Compete at Keller Central

Show Choir performs for the very first time, this Saturday.

The Show Choir, Viva De Voci, will be competing for the first time this Saturday at Keller Central High School.

“We’re the only MISD Show Choir (competing),” sophomore Alyssa Barron said. “I’ve heard Keller is really good. They’re hosting it so it (could) give them the upper hand.”

Choir teacher Josi Alexander has been working with them for the past six months.

“We have to give Ms. A a bunch of credit (because) she pushes us more and more at every practice and won’t stop until it’s perfect,” senior Nick Munoz said.

Not only will it be their first competition, but Viva De Voci will be the group with the least competitors.

“I know we are small,” Alexander said “I believe we will leave a lasting impression. They will definitely remember us.”

Alexander said being in a smaller school makes errors more noticeable.

“Every mistake that is made is magnified versus a larger group,” she said. “It’s easier to cover up those mistakes.”

Barron said that the performers are also physically challenged.

“You definitely have to be fit in some way,” Barron said. “She (Ms. Alexander) had us jog in place while we learn the song so we can practice our breath support.”

The group is very dedicated Munoz said.

“We’ve got people in Show Choir that will pull more than 100 percent into it and it plays a big part,” he said.

The Show Choir will be performing the Pentatonix version of “I Need Your Love”, “Payphone” by Maroon Five, “Telephone” by Lady Gaga, “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz and “Beautiful Day” by U2.

“’Beautiful’ Day is the hardest one for me,” Barron said. “We incorporate slow ballet dance moves and we have more formations.”

Munoz said he expects the group to do well no matter the results.

“Size doesn’t really matter, quality over quantity,” Munoz said. “I’m positive we’ll be fine going up against bigger choirs.”
