Softball Team Hosts Annual Turkey Drive

In order to help families in need, the softball team is collecting turkeys and donations until Nov. 18.

“The drive started when (the school) first opened, and it was ran by the athletic leadership council, ” Coach Donya Mooney said. “When the council was no longer in affect, softball took the lead and continued the drive to provide turkeys to Mission Arlington.”

Many groups come together to help.

“All (the) sports contribute as well as students, faculty and staff,” Mooney said.

Sophomore Hannah Sanchez said she has high expectations.

“Last year, we (got) a lot,” she said. “The whole front of the school was covered. I think we can get even more.”

The turkey drive goes with the upcoming holidays.

“Doing something good for others makes us all feel good and puts us in the giving mood,” Sanchez said.

This drive brings the softball team closer every year, senior Alex Taylor said.

“We all come together for a really good cause,” Taylor said. “We are a very giving team that likes to help others. It helps us realize how much we love each other.”

The girls enjoy giving back to others, Sanchez said.

“We always have people supporting us, so it is nice to take a break and be able to do something for other people,” she said.

Mooney wants to spread the word about the drive in order to make a big impact.

“Anyone can donate money to help,” she said. “Just see a softball player or coach. Turkeys will be purchased on Wednesday.”
