The first blood drive of the school year will be on Oct. 27, in the library, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“All of the previous blood drives went great,” Student Council Sponsor Heather Colburn said. “Once seniors realized they could help out with the community, it was easier.”
To donate blood, students must bring an ID and be 16 or older. If students are younger than 18, they will need parental consent.
“The procedure scared me last year, but I genuinely felt good about donating,” senior Marcus McCoy said. “It opened my eyes to helping the world.”
Seniors who donate more than once get a red cord for their graduation caps.
“I believe it teaches that there are multiple ways to help others,” Colburn said. “I host the drives to help our community. Students get the benefit of saving someone’s life. They get the experience to help them through life.”
Students who want to sign up can scan the QR code.
“Hopefully, we meet the open slots with how many people are signing up,” Colburn said. “People can get a positive effect. Our goal for people signing up was 35 and we have 49 signed up right now.”
