Matilda the Musical Opens Tomorrow
January 18, 2023
Theatre will perform Roald Dahl’s, “Matilda the Musical,” on Jan. 19-21 at 7 p.m., at Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts.
“We loved ‘Matilda’ because of the talking and energizing to the youth,” Director Kenneth Fudge said. “We thought it gave us a really cool opportunity to be creative with the original book.”
The two choices for the play were between Matilda and Annie.
“We always choose our season plays’ in advance,” Fudge said. “We sent out an email to the staff of which one they would love to see more and Matilda won.”
Several people tried out for the role of Matilda.
“We held auditions and we were surprised at how many auditioned,” Fudge said. “It seemed like it fell into a place where the cast presented themselves to us as it was kind of an easy decision for this play.”
This is the first theatre performance in four years to not be held on campus.
“Each high school gets to perform at the PAC every other year, and the last time we performed at the PAC was before I was here as a teacher,” He said. “So, it’s been a while because of the Covid shutdowns.”
The members have prepared for months.
“Students and staff here have been working so hard on this production for months,” Director Lauren Garza said. “We are super excited to share it with audiences.”
Tickets are $10 at the door.
Garza said, “This has been such a blast to work on and we hope you come ready to have fun and sing along.”
