All Time Low Maintains Original Sound with New Album
April 29, 2015
After three years of waiting, fans of All Time Low (ATL) can finally enjoy the band’s new album “Future Hearts.” Released on April 10, fans can expect to be left with nothing but excitement.
This band has been one of the few able to keep up that pop-punk sound as well as an emo vibe. It’s pretty risky not changing your sound completely, considering how much music has changed throughout time, but it’s worked well for them because they sealed the spot for the number one album in the UK. This isn’t that surprising since ATL did a great job having a mixture of different sounds in the album. The group tackled tough subjects as well as putting songs that make you feel happy in there to help ease the mood.
A song in the album that had a lot of meaning was “Old Scars/Future Hearts.” The lyrics expressed the band members trying to move on from a past that won’t seem to go away and instead is constantly stuck in their head.
Another song that was my second favorite of the album was “Kids in the Dark,” which the group already had a video for. The song speaks to kids who feel like they’re constantly being forgotten and who hate their home life. The song is meant to show those kids they’re not alone and that there are always people going through the same thing.
Along with those deep topics, ATL made sure to add songs that would get to you, leaving you trying to hold back tears. “Missing You” and “Cinderblock” are both really slow songs about failed relationships. The slow beat made every word they sang feel even more intense.
However, the most emotional song is “Tidal Waves.” Not only did it include vocals from Blink-182 member Mark Hoppus (who, by the way, is known as one of the most emotional bands in history), but it was about being talked about by people who have no clue of who you really are. It had a soft background beat, but the vocals were the main focus of the song.
Toward the end of the album, ATL has no problem throwing shade. The song “Dancing with a Wolf” is all about an ex-girlfriend who cheated during the relationship. It’s mainly upbeat, letting you express that mix of hate and relief of letting go of that horrible person. The biggest song of the whole album was “Something’s Gotta Give,” which is a good representation of the whole album. If you want to know what the album is about, then listen to this song. The music video for this song is already out, and it is more funny than anything. ATL is known for being a funny band that is relatable and they sure kept that up in Future Heart.
With that being said, ATL did a great job on this album, which is why any “hustler” should go check out this album.
