Beyonce’s new unexpected album was released December 13th and sold 828,773 copies within three days.

Even though it has been over a month since Beyonce surprised the world with the release of her top-secret album, the CD is still captivating. Even though the hype is over for the album, it is still one of my favorites to listen to because of its’ addictive melodies.

When it was released, “Beyoncé” shot to the top ranking number one on Billboard’s Top 200. The album sold 828,773 copies in just three days within its unexpected release. Besides including 14 tracks, the CD held 16 music videos plus a bonus track, “Grown Woman”.

The self-titled album starts out with “Pretty Hurts” which captures the dictatorship of beauty and perfection that rules young women within society. The song contains powerful lyrics like, “It’s the soul that needs the surgery,” which promote inner beauty.

The popular radio hit “Drunk in Love” debuted number 12 on Billboard Hot 100. The song mimics her husband JayZ’s style of music with its’ urban beats, explicit lyrics, mature content and incorporates Beyoncé rapping for the first time on any of her songs, in the second verse.

“Beyoncé” focuses on more controversial topics than in her previous albums. With songs like “Flawless,” targeting gender equality for females and featuring feminist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the title expresses the confinement women are placed in society.

“Partition” and “Haunted” are the most unique tracks on the album because they reveal a never seen before, more mysterious and sexy side of the artist. Experimenting with dark mid-tone beats and raunchy lyrics, she makes the songs distinctive from the rest.

“XO,” sticks to Beyoncé’s usual music style with its lightweight tune; this love ballad truly embraces the connection she has toward her fans. The soon to be radio hit has critics praising her.

The album also displays more of her personal side with songs like “Blue,” which expresses her eternal love for her daughter and “Mine”, which features Drake, and highlights the conflicts within her family.

For fans that are still holding out, break down and buy the album. Not only do you get to hear some amazing songs but also the videos give you more insight to who she is as an artist.
