Fall Movie Line-up Heavy on Action
The fall film season has always brought about exciting and drama filled blockbusters. Things are no different this time. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio returns to work with Martin Scorsese again, in another film based on corruption. Matthew McConaughey stars in two movies within a month and super hero Thor will continue to make more money for the Marvel franchise. Of course, let’s not forget “Catching Fire,” the most anticipated sequel of the year, which will open in late November.
*From the director who made “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Gavin Woods brings the future of warfare into the present with “Ender’s Game.” A boy named Ender Wiggins (Asa Butterfield) is the future of an army, which is recovering from an alien invasion. He is brought up through battle school to learn the basics with Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) as his instructor. In school, Ender and his classmates use real ships and use weapons to train for what might be coming for them.
The visual effects are supposed to be captivating. Although the making of the film only took one year, artists spent over three years and 3,000 man-hours visualizing the movie before production even began. The movie is rated PG-13 and will be coming to theaters on Nov. 1.
Returning for a sequel, Marvel presents “Thor: The Dark World” as the latest super hero movie. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must embark on his most personal and dangerous mission yet to save the world. Newly reunited with his fresh out of prison brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the men must embark on a mission to save the world again from a new enemy that is yet to be revealed. The movie will get huge box office returns no matter what the plot is about. Merchandising and other movie tie-ins will bring in even more money for the company. Look for it to light up the box office on Nov. 8.
From the Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, “The Wolf of Wall Street” is based on a true story about the life of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), who rises to be one of the richest stockbrokers of Wall Street only to fall to its’ darkest depths. The film, set in the 1990s, involves the mob and plenty of corruption. The talented cast includes Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey.
The drama, like most of DiCaprio’s movies will make big money. DiCaprio and Scorsese have also worked together on The Departed and Shutter Island. This film is the fifth movie they have teamed up for and each time they score big at the box office. Rumor is the run time is three hours long. The film is not yet rated, but will be released on Nov. 15.
The long anticipated sequel to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be released Nov. 22. The return of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) to the screens is sure to break box office records. This time the action film is directed by newcomer Francis Lawrence, who had big shoes to fill after the surprising success of the first movie.
What’s nice about this series is that viewers don’t have to have read the book to enjoy the film. The thrilling sequel, which focuses on a civil war, will show the twists and turns of the 75th Hunger Games. The PG13 rated blockbuster will debut on Wed., Nov. 22, in hopes of pulling in even larger box office numbers.
