Tips for Surviving Black Friday

Tips for Surviving Black Friday

Hannah Patterson, Managing Editor

After three hours of waiting in the cold at night, the doors of Target finally fly open and you rush your way to the front of the line. This is the day. This is the moment. It’s game time. Here is the best way to go about your Black Friday shopping.

1. Plan where you want to shop.

Whether you want to do all your shopping in one location or you plan on making different stops, it is best to have it mapped out. If a specific shopping mall is your choice, begin at the entrance and mark the stores closest to it and continue mapping them out until you have reached an exit and have crossed the finish line. If you want to go to multiple stores around you, start with the one that is farthest from your house and work your way back.

2. Have a list prepared

Before you even leave the house, sit down and blueprint what you are getting for everyone and where to find it. The last thing you want is to finally get to your destination and then forget everything you left the house for. The mission is to get in, get what you need and get out as fast as possible. Remember to bring your pen to mark items off as you shop. Remember to focus on what is on your list, don’t get sidetracked on what you want, it’s about others.

3. Be comfortable

Being around a ton of people who are pushing and yelling to get what they want is already enough to make one pull their hair out. Help yourself calm down and relax by dressing for comfort. Avoid heels or anything too fancy. Sweatpants and running shoes will become your friend as you jog up and down the aisles racing to get what you need.

4. Relax

Saving money and getting things done is what you hope to accomplish but don’t allow this day to stress you out or ruin your time. If you’re going to go at all, make sure to stay positive about it. When you step out into the chaos of black Friday you want to walk up and down the aisles with confidence and ease. The last thing people want on Black Friday is another angry shopper.

These tips will help your shopping go a little smoother. However, if you really want to enjoy your Thanksgiving, just stay home in the comfort of your house away from crazy couponing moms and enjoy the weather, season and everything you have to be thankful for and save yourself from the craziness.
