To be or not to be?

In the fall of 2010 Ben Barber will become Frontier High School. Sophomores of ‘09-‘10 have an opportunity to apply and have the chance to attend Frontier High where the campus focuses on post high school graduation, leaving students with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma, industry-recognized certificate, professional license, and even college hours. Ben Barber should become a whole different high school.
Although it may not benefit our ‘09-‘10 juniors and seniors in the long run, we should all have interest in it, due to the fact that it will benefit many other students of MISD and give them the opportunity and chance to better themselves now and in the future when they graduate high school. Their senior year, the students will also participate in an internship and capstone program, giving students a chance to work hard and prepare for the real world and work field. Capstone program plays a similar role, by integrating and enhancing students learning in several different arenas.
Many disagree with the fact that Ben Barber should become Frontier High because they feel everyone should have the equal amount of opportunity and chance not just a select number. Although some feel this way, at the same time it has already gone in affect and we have no control over that. Our generation today should want to better themselves anytime we get the chance. They can’t say our teachers, staff, and parents don’t care about them and their education because this happened for them.
Go on the MISD website or go to the school board about it to voice your support for the new Frontier High.

Maresha, thanks for sharing your thoughts on FHS and BBCTA. To be clear, Frontier High School will be *inside* Ben Barber Career Tech Academy. They will be two separate schools with different enrollments. I am glad to read that you believe your peers “should want to better themselves.” Keep up the good work.
